A good, solid local; it's quite out of the way, but worth hunting out. As the other reviewers say, it's Hop Back beers, which not everyone is a fan of. The place is pleasant and quite cheap (especially when compared to the Salisbury prices), but it's not outstanding. The "open all day" is a decided advantage. 6/10

Open all day; with 5 or 6 ales, a friendly welcome, and cheaper prices than the city. Worth the walk or bus ride to get here. Unfortunately there are no 'cosy corners' because the furniture seems to be chosen to suit diners (and in large groups). Food wasn't tried - but a good looking, varied menu.

A Hopback owned pub - so only their beers available. We drank the Trick or Treat - a seasonal - darker than most Hopback beers but very tasty and served very well here.

The lunch menu was inviting. Both our meals were well cooked and generous in quantity.

Clearly a locals' pub but we were made very welcome on our midweek, lunchtime visit. If we lived in the area, we would probably make many repeat visits.

Unlike wolvesfan (posting 5 sept 2010) I have no problem with Hop Back beers but agree a guest ale would be a good addition. As it was the beers were in excellent condition. I do agree with wolvesfan the new tenants, Becki and Tim, are enthusiastic and have already made improvements to what had become rather dreary.
We had a good Sunday lunch. It was the first day they had begun serving food and while there were a couple of minor teething problems they did not spoil a pleasant experience. I have no doubt that we will be back on a not infrequent basis.

I'm not a great lover of Hop Back or its beers. However, John Gilbert was possibly quite astute when he bought this place. It is the only pub in the village and is open all day. The pub just recently acquired new tenants and it seems like they are full of enthusiasm, food starts shortly. This really could be a very good pub with the right management team. Only the 'Hop Back' beers let it down!!! Any chance of a guest ale??
