Lovely country pub in a lovely village. Good ale, good food and friendly staff. I was focused totally on the Harvey's Old Ale, which was very well kept. They do Harvey's Sussex as well and at least one more but I didn't notice what that was. The food is simple pub fare at a reasonable price. Nothing spectacular but perfectly good for the price. Dogs and sprogs are allowed. Why do some parents think it's OK for their offspring to spead most of their lunch over the floor?? If you come here on a Sunday in September (can't remember which one) the pub hosts a steam rally when the village is taken over by steam engines, classic cars and bikes and lots of people. Very busy but a good event. gareth1011 - 30 Jan 2012 18:32
Wonderful country pub, with really lovely well presented food in an unfussy, friendly atmosphere. The food just gets better every time we go! My husband says they serve the best pint of Harveys you will ever drink - it's consistently good. You can sit out front to watch the world go by, chat to the locals, sit in the pretty garden out the back and bring your dog! Great dog walks all round. sixslices - 25 May 2011 21:16
We went to this pub last sunday and the service was terrible. We had a 3 course meal and in total it took us 3 hours. took 1.5hrs for the main course to come out. Also the starters had a hair in it. All the portions were small aswell. When we asked about why there was a delay they said it was because a lot of people were ordering food. The restaurant was empty and there were about 4 tables in the garden. I stood at the bar waiting to get served and the waitress came over and said 'did you want to say something' which isn't very polite or professional at all. We didn't get a discount for the hair or the wait and the portions were small and cold. Needless to say - we wont be going back in a hurry. Swarv - 5 Jul 2010 16:05
This pub depends very much on when you visit. When it's busy it is very good, especially in summer as there's a large garden at the rear and also plenty of room to spill on to the quiet road in front. The location is excellent. However it can be deadly quiet, particularly in winter. Then you need to take a paper or a friend. There's a traction engine rally here one sunday each September. Harveys Sussex and Bass on draught. There's sometimes a third ale on, maybe from the 1648 Brewery in nearby Easy Hoathly (summer) or Harveys Old (winter). The blackboard menu is available in both the bar and the restaurant. sussexred - 18 Jan 2008 15:26
