We went here 29/12/12 in the early evening. Our two dogs were welcome.Old style cosy beamed pub with open fires.Good range of real ales (about 4 i think).I had "Swift One" my friends had "Timothy Taylor Landlord" and a glass of the house Red wine. All very good.We had booked an early table for food.Good menu including specials and a Gluten free menu aswell. For starters we had the mushrooms, the whitebait and the vegetable soup of the day.For mains we had the burger from the Gluten free menu, the Roast beef and veg in a large Yorkshire pudding and the fish in sauce with prawns. The service was friendly ,quick and efficient. We were asked at least twice if everything was alright by different staff members. The pub was busy. The second sitting of diners arrived at 8pm for our table which we had to vacate.Unfortunately one has to stand at the bar as all the tables are reserved for diners. It would have been nice to continue sitting down to finish our drinks. The prices are slightly higher (£12.95 for the roast Beef) but it is good and well presented with generous portions. It should be noted that The Sun is a Pub that does good food and it is not a restaurant.Pity about the Reserved labels on every table.
There are a couple of Car Parks which fill quickly. The country lane had cars parked along it which showed they were busy.We will go here again if we can book a table.

You will almost certainly need to reserve a table to get in here. Have been a few times now and have never been too enamoured with the starters. The main courses are generally very good and you will get good value for your money if you choose something hearty. The big selling point of this place is the atmosphere and the beers - a great range well kept. Could be described as a little claustrophobic; try not to tread on any dogs! Falls a little off the mark as it is so busy, but certainly worth a visit.

great pub. food and beer excellent, yes the tables are often reserved but that must be a good sign, well worth booking a table in advance

This really is a great little pub. The landlady is really friendly and very proud (and rightfully so) of her pub. Staff are good and the food is excellent. Highly recommended.

Having seen this pub advertised I thought it worthy of a 15 mile trip to get to it.

The beer was in good form and having sampled the Itchen Valley Pure Gold and Stonehenge Pigswill the trip was worthwhile. The staff were also efficient and welcoming.

Luckily I didnt want food as the major drawback of this pub is that every table inside (and one outside) were reserved. I felt like I had gate crashed someone private birthday celebration! Must mean the pub is popular (which cant be a bad thing in this day and age) but annoying if you are only passing through and you want to sit down.

Worth a visit just for the ale but book first if you want the luxury of a seat!
