You will almost certainly need to reserve a table to get in here. Have been a few times now and have never been too enamoured with the starters. The main courses are generally very good and you will get good value for your money if you choose something hearty. The big selling point of this place is the atmosphere and the beers - a great range well kept. Could be described as a little claustrophobic; try not to tread on any dogs! Falls a little off the mark as it is so busy, but certainly worth a visit. SweeneyRegan - 7 Oct 2010 17:21
great pub. food and beer excellent, yes the tables are often reserved but that must be a good sign, well worth booking a table in advance jay1974 - 5 Oct 2010 08:13
This really is a great little pub. The landlady is really friendly and very proud (and rightfully so) of her pub. Staff are good and the food is excellent. Highly recommended. wolvesfan - 18 Aug 2009 17:58
Having seen this pub advertised I thought it worthy of a 15 mile trip to get to it. The beer was in good form and having sampled the Itchen Valley Pure Gold and Stonehenge Pigswill the trip was worthwhile. The staff were also efficient and welcoming. Luckily I didn’t want food as the major drawback of this pub is that every table inside (and one outside) were reserved. I felt like I had gate crashed someone private birthday celebration! Must mean the pub is popular (which can’t be a bad thing in this day and age) but annoying if you are only passing through and you want to sit down. Worth a visit just for the ale but book first if you want the luxury of a seat! getmeonein - 10 Aug 2009 17:00
lovely old style pub. enjoyed a great few ales with some charming regulars before suddenly being asaulted by an old crone due overly for retirement. After revealing my identity to her I was continually reminded of my past achievements and treated preferentially as apposed to others awaiting service. The staff were charming until her arrival when I suddenly sensed a bit of tension. I was appalled by the treatment of staff upon her arrival and swore to never frequent her pub again. It is a charming place with potential for alot of character but I'm afraid the cheap facade of candles and homely wood fires does little to hide the fakeness dreggs - 11 Oct 2008 22:44
