A pub I've visited on many occasions over the years and l echo the previous gentleman's comments. This is a nice pub in a convenient location (right opposite railway station) and if real ale is your thing you are rarely disappointed here.

Beer? Usually four on tap (plus one real cider) and the range varies, although I've noticed over the last few visits that Black Sheep bitter seems to be a regular these days? Other offerings yesterday (26/11) were from Castle Rock~Elsie Mo, Lancaster~Amber & the best of the lot, Pictish~Columbus which was beautiful.

The interior here is somewhat traditional, but it's warm & comfortable and generates it's own unique character. Based on one long sloping room (main bar) it has a cosy snug bar at the bottom end (here you'll find the gaming machines) On my visit the clientèle were mostly "real ale" based which tended to put them in the middle to older age bracket. As on previous visits I am happy to report that the place was spotlessly clean and that goes for the toilet too.
The young lady serving was also very pleasant and gave me a full glass every time, so no complaints here either.

Overall, a good pub, friendly locals & excellent beer, not much more you can say really....Recommended! Oh, just one small gripe? The beer prices...at £2.80 and upwards it's not an all day venue.

Despite living in North Wales I visit this pub at least 7 or 8 times per month as I spend a number of weekends in Glossop.
Unlike a previous reviewer I have never found the pub to be clique-y or the barmaids or two barmen to ever delay serving customers while they finish talking to their friends.
The beer is always excellent as they take a pride in how they look after and serve their ale.
I find The Star to be friendly and welcoming to all whatever their age, although during the weekend there doesn't appear to be too many youngsters.
Whether on my own or with friends I always feel comfortable to be in there. I recently took some visiting American friends there for a drink and they loved the place (although they couldn't take to proper ale).
Excellent pub, excellent beer and excellent staff, well worth a visit, most people won't be disappointed.

Barmaid took too long to stop talking to the locals in this very clique-y and dull pub before serving us. Great ale range, but mediocre Stowford Press. Surprised to see Sambrooke's Wandle from our London neck of the woods up north, which was very nice. Sadly not top of the list of places to visit again.
