user reviews of the Esplanade, Bangor

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

3 handpumps in bar usually serving whitewater beers. staff and customers not particularly friendly. dont be surprised to get odd looks or comments if you order real ale.
nice location overlooking belfast lough with attractive beer garden.
one of only two outlets that serve real ale in bangor, although this is about a mile from town centre in upmarket ballyholme.

Popped in on Sunday (19/02/12) into the rear bar which is called 'Gillespies Place'. Nice enough bar, two real ales on (Ilkley Mary Jane & Hornbeam Dark & Delicious). Its a fair old walk out of Bangor town centre, so a bus or a taxi is recommended.

The Esplanade has a couple of different bars with separate entrances. It has the feeling of a hotel bar and apparently used to be a hotel. 3 Whitewater beers were on - Belfast Ale, Belfast Black Stout & Copperhead Ale. The front bar has a modern feel and has artwork (for sale) on the walls. It has wonderful views over the bay. A reasonable place. But lacked atmosphere.

Very nice Guest ales. always a welcome when I visit from England. it's not the Irish sea out there but only Belfast Lough. A lovely sight though to watch the sunset on a summer nght.

Overlooking Ballyholme Beach in Bangor, the Esplanade is a small but friendly bar, split into 3 rooms. The rear room is the public bar where the locals drink, the front room is the lounge, where food is served and it overlooks the Irish Sea. Upstarirs is the popular Gryphon restaurant. In the summer, weather permitting, the front terrace is used. A friendly bar in the heart of Ballyholme, Bangor, Northern Ireland.
