Never been a favourite pub in town, but every now and again I go back to see if it has improved. Supposedly catering for the more mature clientele, I was a bit surprised to be told to drink up, more than onece, at closing time, by a kid staff member, as if he were talking to a mate. We know that they must abide by the laws, but there is such a thing as speaking respectfully. Haven't been back since last summer.
Luckily there are plenty of alternatives

Ember Inns execs please take note. This pub is in real danger of losing regulars like myself. With its excellent location and great big garden, together with traditionally relaxed atmosphere and real ales it's normally my pub of choice. BUT... management has let the place slide of late - it's desperately short staffed more than anything. As has been pointed out, toilets are a disgrace. The beer garden hasn't seen a lawnmower in what looks like years. Frequently all the tables have dirty plates, glasses etc on them. Decor is getting tatty and it needs a refurb. With more staff this could be a really great pub. Cut the grass. Clear the tables. Get more serving staff on!

Visited twice (why?) over Christmas. Both times the real ales were off (or they were taken off after I complained) The Gents was still flooded and when I reported it to the bar staff (as requested by the notice in the loos) the Brain of Britain behind the bar asked if I was referring to the Ladies or the Gents. The smoking ban means you can now enjoy the stench of lager soaked carpet as you enter the place. The armchairs and sofas give the impression that this is a place to relax and spend an evening with friends. Only if you are Billy No Mates.

This is potentially a very good pub. Unfortunately its always a mission to get to the bar on busy nights and the staff have always been way too slow with serving.

Half decent selection of beers and wines. Nothing special though.

The gents have got worse and worse over a period of time. Usually only one cubicle thats "working".

At last, an Ember Inn which is well run and well supported. The Oatsheaf is a great meeting place for early evenings - food does Mitchells + Butlers proud, especially the Satay sticks, Mmmm. Beer not bad and garden is superb in the sun. Shal return for sure - especially if the same bar staff are working
