My lady and I had a nasty experience at the Moon on the Square in Feltham today. Its a scruffy pub in a rough part of West London – it was full of old guys and a few women to match. Anyway we wanted breakfast and it was that or Asda. We found a sticky table near the window. ALL the tables are sticky at this place. They never clean them or collect the used glasses. My lady sat down and we looked at the menu. I took her order and went to the bar – were I waited and waited and waited – whilst all the obvious regulars were served first. Eventually the barman – an Aussie in his 30s with a face sparkling with shiny metal piercings (says it all really) – said what table was I at? I said i didn’t know, but it was the one over there (pointing to the table where my lady was sitting). He said he needed the table number. I said didn’t he know it? He said he wasn’t going to take my order unless I went back to the table and told him what the number was. I asked him why he didn’t know it. [In similar establishments even in Wetherspoon pubs we have always received help from staff who actually know the layout of their table numbers]. However this ar$ehole was quite adamant that I was going to have to go back to the table to get the number. He said go back and get the bl**dy table number or you wont get served. Meanwhile he started serving the regulars again. Now no-one talks to me like that so I said i wanted to see the manager. He said he was the manager. I said that with an attitude like that and using such bad language to customers – in front of elderly ladies too – that I was surprised he was a manager. He then told me to get out – I was not getting served. He was the most unpleasant and aggressive ‘manager’ I have had to deal with for years. The facial piercings were an obvious warning sign. But I’ve also had that attitude from Aussies towards Brits when I’ve been in Sydney etc. So he was obviously reverting to type. Never again.

Just two guest beers on last evening - Bishops Finger and a Mordue Brewery golden ale. I had a pint of the latter which was hazy although it tasted OK.

This, of course, is at odds with mim's contention (see below) that Gary the manager will not put on beers which are not ready. I'm no beer expert but I know a few things and as far as I'm concerned if it's hazy then it is not ready - and I've had a few cloudy beers in here of late.

Just had the one pint and then jumped on the bus to the JDW pub in Hounslow where there were five guest ales and the three I had were in good nick.

Come on, Gary, get the Feltham JDW back to where it was when John and Sara ran the place !

The Moon of late has had a depleted selection of ales on, just two guests rather than the usual four or five, incl. one on gravity on the bar top. I know on occassions they get drained when the rugby is on, and Gary will not put on ales that are not ready to serve. One day can make a difference of a thin tasting ale and a full rounded flavour. However the ale or two that have been on are in good condition. Maybe more advanced ale planning is needed?
