The landlord (or bar manager?) was aggressive and angry because our young kids were playing a quiet game collecting bits of rubbish from a flowerbed - we felt threatened so we got the kids out of there but on our way out we were told never to come back. The pub is our local and we have never had issues before (apart from undercooked burgers and meat in veggie dishes)

They should not be advertising this pub as family friendly. Be careful if you plan to visit as a family with kids.

Being so close to Anne Hathaway's Cottage, you might be mistaken in thinking that this pub would exude old-fashioned charm. Instead you'll find a typical Greene King establishment largely devoid of any character. Pity there is nowhere else to go in Shottery. Beers were Abbot, Old Golden Hen (which was fine) and IPA. Not that I expected much from a plate of nachos with chicken pieces but they were bland and corporately grey. The rest of the menu at least looked as if it was priced reasonably.

Delightful, friendly with good food and pleasant surroundings. Lovely location, and good stop on walks! Fast service normally, but does get busy at times. Absolutely delighted to see a previous review in which they said that the proprietors told noisy kid to shut up. Wish there were more like this. Children can be lovely, but screaming kids when you are trying to enjoy a peaceful meal and good company can be a nightmare. I shall go here more often having read that review!

Unwelcoming and unfriendly. My son had a tantrum in there and we were told if he didnt stop we would have to leave as he was annoying the other customers.
I was shot dirty looks from across the bar by the landlord!
I used to often go to the Bell before I had a child, however I wont be doing so again.
If pubs dont want children on their premises then they should state that clearly, not make me feel so uncomfortable that I have to leave.
My meal was nice, however I ordered off the childrens menu and was surprised that the childrens dish I ordered did not come with any vegetables, expecially when there is such a focus on this.
I have no problems with pubs excluding familes if they wish to do so, however dont market yourself as a local family friendly village pub with a childrens menu if this is not the reality.
The pub must have changed hands It has been over 2 years since I last went there, it always was a friendly and welcoming place to go now it isnt!

Good food and a selection of Greene King beers. A nice pub but often busy due to its proximity to Anne Hathaways cottage.

Has been refurbished since some of the earlier comments and no longer has the tvs and has returned to the relaxed atmosphere.
