Half decent boozer with eye candy behind the bar and quite friendly with it. Downside is it's packed to the rafters with one pint wonders on Friday evenings, especially since the St Pauls Tavern and Kings Head closed, so best avoided then.

I was in this pub on 31st Jan 2008. I hads 2 pints, 1 Carling and 1 Fosters. Both were flat and not drinkable. I bought a round of drinks and for 4 people, the bill was 16 pound. Not nice and won't go back.

On a sunny mid-afternoon the patio/terrace at the rear is a relatively pleasant place to have lunch with a pint.
Agree that the front may look like a council estate pub but it's really a City suit spot, with the usual pluses and minuses that carries.
I would guess that this sort of place experiences a high staff turnover, with many (possibly eastern Europeans) working to help them with their studies or on working holiday. Therefore the service you will receive is really down to luck of who is there at teh time.
If you just want a drink there are better real ale pubs a short walk from here.

best pub of a poor bunch

Very poor. My girlfriend heard staff being offensive about customers twice and I had to stop her from saying something.
Really will not come into the place again, Women were queueing up outside the toilets and yes I would agree that the pub is plasticky looking.
Beer was passable (nothing more) but the whole attitude of staff turned us off the place.
