| The Landlord is keen to please and does his best to keep a good range of beers. Usually has 3-4 Beartown beers, plus 2-3 guests and cider/scrumpy. Good selection of foreign beers too. A good knowledgeable crowd of beer drinkers frequent when open at lunch times. On the downside the pub needs some investment on a refurb. It is a big pub and a lick of paint won't restore it to it's former glory. It has a general feeling of an edge of town forgotten pub. Well worth a visit if you are in Hyde. | This pub should be Hyde's favourite drinking establishent, but a couple of things seriously let it down. Firstly is the disgusting state of the toilets. They are simply awful and, being crude but honest, skid marks and stains linger for weeks or even months. They aren't actually grotty toilets in design. Nothing special, but their real problem lies in the simple absence of cleaning and basic maintainance. The lock on the sit down (Not that I would use it these days) has been missing for.... Actually I can't remember it ever having a lock! The other big minus for this pub is the fact that the landlord likes his own products far too much for the good of the pub and totally fails to appreciate how offputting this can be and how much it impairs his ability to be a good host. Nothing against a landlord enjoying a drink, but being so obviously the worse for wear from mid afternoon to closing is not the way to run a pub IMHO. Having said all this, top notch beer and a friendly atmosphere. However, I would visit far more frequently if these little faults could be resolved as they ruin an otherwise good experience. anonymous - 17 Jun 2007 09:48 |
