When Barry Sullivan opened this pub 20 years ago it was one of the best pubs I have ever been in - so good that Tetley's made him an offer he could not refuse - they little understood by tampering with the service and products he had provided - that it was only going to suffer a decline that with minor ups and several steep downs has continued ever since.

We have now had a new landlord for 4 weeks and he seems to be embarking on a programme that will make it a truly sociable, warm, friendly, well run local pub that will soon be a positive amenity for the local community.

Those of us who have stayed loyal through the bad times (it helps when it's a 2 minute walk) are really buoyed by the way things are changing.

But it will take time! And it needs customers to support it on it's journey back to vibrancy - why not visit it now - and give it a rating - then return in a month and give it another rating - I am sure it will be higher !

It currently holds a rating of 6.5 - how I don't know - it can scarcely have merited more than 2 over the last few years Never knowing when it was to be open, if it would have any beer? and on the few busy occasions waiting ages to get served. The new landlord has already turned it around - but I will only give it 5, because it IS going to get a lot better!
