Quirky real ale treasure trove for these parts. Small pub with very much a local crowd, but friendly. Beers seem well kept as per the CAMRA accolades. Still do rolls as pub grub. Almost timeless.

"expertoppion" may have posted his/her entry below on 17 February this year, but the visit to which he/she refers was made a long time ago, and most certainly predates my last posting of 26 February 2009 when a refurbishment had just taken place, as a result of a new landlord taking over the reins!

I can, with certainty, place "expertoppion"'s visit between 04 April 2006 and 17 February 2009!

"Do try and keep up, 007!"

I was drinking in a pub in Kent when a mate found a leaflet published by CAMRA which claimed, to my surprise that the Artillery Arms was Pub of the Year in Kent! "Let's get down there for a pint" I said.
Next day we walked in with open minds and a thirst on.
There was a good selection of beers, sure, and they were well kept. However at the bar sat three ugly thugs who gave off at feeling off dread. The place was deathly silent and the decore hadnt been changed, or cleaned, for decades. We felt so uncomfortable that we took our beers to the back of the pub, up a flight of stairs and found a busted piano, a box of childrens toys! and an old lady talking to herself. Id say if you are a blind man who likes his beers, then come on in.

Happy to report that the air freshener is no longer required. Super little pub with a lovely selection of fine ale. On my last visit was suitably greeted by the lovely locals and Gadds Little Cracker on offer. By the time I had got through the various ales, Little Cracker had run out. Best go back then...

Something a bit sad is happening here. There seems to be a distinct lack of atmosphere. Beer is good, although not as consistent as it used to be. The lovely locals are gradually going elsewhere it seems. There are many who agree. Landlord please take note. You cannot rely on previous reputation alone. And please tell a certain few to stop farting at the bar. Very unpleasant.
