Visited this pub on a recent day trip to the city and was more than pleasantly surprised. Pulled a quality pint of Summer Lightning and had at least three more real ales along the bar. It may have been more but the pub was so full thats all I could see. Well worth a visit if you are in this area of Manchester and worth the diversion if you are not!!

A friendly, traditional style pub. Hobgoblin cask ale was on last night - very well kept. However, a shame it was the only cask ale on - the guest had gone off - as not everyone wants to drink a 5% beer.

Well worth a visit.

I TRIED THIS PUB WHILE I WAS DOWN FROM SCOTLAND BACK IN SEP 2007 + IM GONNA GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY, HAD WE PRACTICE FROW EH THE DARTBOARD ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEEDING TO BE FIXED TO THE WALL BETTER, HAVING SAID THAT I ENJOYED IT OK + BELIEVE IT CAN BE A FRIENDLY BAR, THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY, IT'S JUST THAT I THINK SOME PEOPLE GET THE WRONG IMPRESSION OF US SCOTS AS WE ARE NOT ALL DRUNKS, SO GIVE US A CHANCE, AS I IN PARTICULAR JUST LIKE A FEW AT THE WEEKENDS THE SAME AS MOST PEOPLE. AND ILL BE BACK SOON SO IF U HEAR A STRANGER AT THE BAR JOIN IN + HAVE A CHAT AS THAT'S WHAT BEING FRIENDLY IS ALL, ABOUT WE ALL ARE ONLY IN THIS WORLD ONCE SO MAKE THE BEST OF IT + HAVE A WE LAUGH IN BETWEEN EH. TAKE CARE MANCHESTER FOLKS YOU ARE OK.

Have always found the barstaff here very friendly. The beer is good but it would be better if they had more range, it's always Hobgoblin and one other. I've just noticed that every other reviewer is mentioning the friendly staff so top marks to them it can't just be me! There is a magic mirror at the top end of the pub.
