| Good quality village pub with a range of Palmers ales and decent pub food. Service was efficient and friendly. Worth a visit. thewickingman - 7 Jan 2012 11:33 |
| This pub is simply outstanding. If you are a loud lager fizz belly looking for tv, jukebox and fruit machines then pass on by. If you want a pub selling a full range of really well kept real ales in comfortable, dog friendly surroundings then be prepared to order a taxi home. Been here three times in last three days - each time there has been a different mix of locals and non villagers but on each occasion we were totally sucked into the friendly and vibrant atmosphere. I could fill pages of good things about this pub and in particular the landlady who went out of her way to make us feel welcome, but I think that its best that you try it yourself. | A very good pub with good ale which seems to keep its local feel despite being in a prime tourist area. Floyd - 17 Apr 2011 17:14 |
| At the risk of sounding like the ignorant London tourist that I am, I feel that this pub represents nearly the quintessence of the British country pub experience. I went in here three times on my visit to the area, and each time it was busy, but not excessively so, with an eclectic mix of dyed-in-the-wool West Country locals, pensioners and rich folks down visiting their second homes for the weekend, and out-and-out tourists such as myself. This pub is housed in a fine old building, complete with thatched roof and roaring fire. The full of range of local Palmers beers was on offer, and I can report first-hand that all were in excellent condition. The excellent food, to my eye, was very reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly without being overbearing. In short: If you find yourself in the neighbourhood a visit is well worth it. | Great pub - shame about the 'plum in mouth' locals who are as local as a Pearly King. Go back to London you scum! johnny.sausage - 26 Feb 2011 18:02 |
