Went to the Mitre on Saturday and wont be going again. Nice traditional place wasnt busy which was good. We were seated straight away but no-one came to take a drinks order and we didnt see our waiter for 25 mins despite there being only 2 other tables in our area. Finally he took our food order and still didnt ask if we wanted drinks. When we finally saw him again we asked for drinks but somehow they took 15 mins to arrive, long after the starter! Food however was good although main course was missing onion rings as per the menu, when asked we were told there werent any, no mention of that when food was ordered. Drinks again when ordered took another 10 mins or so despite the bar beong 20 ft from where we were sat. Diabolical service but reasonably good food if a little pricey. badger40 - 4 Jan 2009 23:17
I like this place - great to be able to get a seat, relax with a beer and watch the hustle and bussle of Oxford High Street. Always quick at serving and reasonably priced. dazza7a1 - 27 May 2007 09:50
Tourist trap serving boring food. Imagine the place you'd take your granny if you didn't like her. thedts - 5 Sep 2006 02:13
Soul destroying place but nonetheless I always ended up in here... perhaps because it did big plates of fairly good value food and was bang in the middle of the High. Or more likely because I was totally clueless as a student. A big place with, if I remember correctly, really good service - but rubbish beers and ultimately its some kind of Harvester or something. Much better places literally a stone's throw away. Jesswong - this is not posh - quite the reverse. anonymous - 12 Jan 2006 10:58
Apologies if the general quality of beer is good -and the food, which I ignored-. I could not take more than a sip of the pint -whose identity I don't give, since the brewer is not to blame-. But I got the impression that it is better usually, and will test later. anonymous - 1 May 2005 22:28
