Although predominantly a restaurant, is a pub with interesting railway pictures, old timetables etc. About 2 kms from Widmerpool Village

Well known former destination food house. Converted station building. Rural position, just off A46. Big car park. Reasonable outside area.

Currently closed, but perhaps soon to re-open. Definately worth visiting when it's trading.

While we were on our way home yesterday from Derbyshire to Essex, my husband remembered this place from when he used to live in the area. He said it had been made into a pub from the Widmerpool railway station and used to be a specialist fish restaurant. What commended me to it was the announcement on the board outside that it served traditional English home-cooked food. I liked the mention of 'English'. Also, the railway prints by railway artists. My late first husband, who had been a railwayman, would have loved it. I even found a print by Terence Cuneo in the ladies' loo, but didn't have time to search for Cuneo's trademark mouse.

Anyway, to the food. My husband had local beer, which he thoroughly approved of. And the carvery was good. Lovely well-cooked but not over-cooked roast beef. I couldn't fault the meal. Good service, friendly and efficient. We'll certainly be back there the next time we're in the area, which won't be for another few months.

Fantastic restaurant-pub with superb staff-the PERSON behind the bar IS the flag ship of the establishment, excellent food and friendly locals characters, which is reflected in the very happy customers, including myself. We will definitely be using this as ourhalf way meeting place in the future. Very impressed!Give this place a try !

More of a restuarant than a pub -clean, spacious and well-managed, excellent food- well presented ,good beer and wine, friendly service- who could ask for more? I've been here for dinner four times in the last few weeks, and every time have come away thoroughly impressed. Last time I had a whole oven baked seabass-absolutelly fantastic and big portion ,and my wife she had a slow rost lamb shank-with red wine juice-cooked to perfection. My beers were cold, fizzy & export strength, shes red wine great (reccomended by the staff). We will be back again and again! Well done !!! Recommended to others !
