| Yes, ANOTHER slug and lettice. Same place, same staff (near enough), new paint and 30% more expensive than it was before. Trying to be upmarket in a town that considers Wayne Rooney's girlfriend to be a toff. Just plain sad. Go to the Harrow of King's Head. | Hogshead = cask of ale equivalent to approximately 50 imperial gallons. Hog's head is the head of the hog. Hos is defined (in the same dictionary) as a domesticated pig, esp. a castrated male reared for slaughter. Hmmm. Could be rather clever joke on the staff or clientele? Only one ale in here now: Bombadier. However, tastes good and only £2 a pint on Friday and Saturdays now - as are all the other drinks I might add. | It was like a petrol station inside. I had to wait ages for a rather ordinary pint, TV screens were good if that's your lot. Why is it spelt Hog's Head? This surely means Hog is head? I thought a hogshead was a large cask. Sums it up really. playfair - 8 Sep 2006 11:38 |
