| Although I hate to see proper pubs being closed down I for one am glad to see this one go!! Perhaps the the landlord of 10 years ago remembers punching a woman in the face for no reason, what a charmer eh?!?!?! Goodbye pub & bad memories! anonymous - 29 Jun 2006 18:03 |
| All I can say is it was a friendly, clean and tidy pub with good beer and friendly staff and I used the pub perhaps too often for the good of my bank balance and liver without so much of a hint of trouble.May have gone down a bit after Matt and Theresa left but seems there are too many stuck up piano and pitcher types in Richmond to appreciate a real pub. anonymous - 3 Jun 2006 21:56 |
| Have to agree , not one of my favourites in Richmond , but a hell of a shame to lose another one of Richmonds REAL pubs . Used to pop in here pre rugby , when Mollys got too hectic , and always got a fine pint of Guiness . Another one bites the dust....... squatter - 9 May 2006 14:15 |
| CLOSED - landlords have put the rent up and Kieran ( aka Al Murray ) has now called it a day. Unlikely to ever reopen again as a pub, I'm afraid. This pub has had mixed reviews, but I never had any problem with any of the punters or the beer. I just loved the old style interior and the etched glass - hope it can be preserved. The frontage of the building is apparently listed and cant be touched. Yes, the pub was getting a bit run down, but it was a proper pub, not one of these awful high street Mc Pub places that all look and feel the same. You got served by proper local people, not awful Eastern Europeans or temporary staff. The Blue Anchor had apparently been a pub since 1781 - there was a framed mirror in the pub indicating this. It was a most "un - Richmond" like pub. Quite nostalgic - a bit of a time warp feel to it. I think that's why I quite liked it. I for one am sorry to see it go BLUE ANCHOR - R.I.P.
