£8.00 for a small glass of Rioja. That was enough to piut me off. Much better pubs in the area.

This is my new local.
Having moved to the area 6 months ago I have frequented this pub quite a few times and on all occasions have had an enjoyable experience.
Staff are friendly and seem to get on well with the regulars.
Ales available are IPA and Abbott plus the barman told me that they quite often have a guest ale and at the moment it's The Royal London.
I agree with the below review and also recommend the Lamb Burger which comes with the best chips I’ve ever had. We started with Devilled White Bait which was equally as delicious.

I highly recommend this pub for good value for money.

My local .. and not a bad little pub.

Good allrounder without being spectacular.

Staff are fine, clientel are inoffensive, beer selection ok, and as a previous poster stated: has a unobtrusive flatscreen that shows all the sport but is just far enough away from Putney High Street to avoid the chavs that populate The Fox.

The best feature is actually the food. Fairly basic such as fish and chips, etc.. but absolute quality and well priced. I would highly recommend the lamb burger, the best I've had.

Everything you want in a local, but not so good that it attracts the hordes.

Went here a few weeks ago. Very nice bar staff and decent pints. Food was excellent and really tasty. Not too many people in there which is a pity as it could help the atmosphere of the place a bit. Would definitely recommend for food although the place is a but dull for a night out!

Greene King pub situated on the A205 South Circular slightly west of Putney town centre.

It's a fairly unremarkable single bar pub, recently given a serious contemporary-style makeover. It's now got the trademark wood flooring, and mixture of settees, high tables etc and the obligatory pastel shaded walls. There's a dining area towards the rear.

On my recent lunchtime visit, there were several customers watching the motor racing on a reasonably unobtrusive plasma screen. There's a smoking area and garden out at the back, together with several tables on the pavement at the front for breathing in the traffic fumes as the bumper-to-bumper traffic crawls past.

My pint of IPA at £ 2.80p was reasonable. Rev James was on as a guest, but I can't imagine there's much beer trade here.

Externally, small painted lettering on an outside wall proclaim this pub as being "probably the oldest pub in Putney". The word "probably" is written in smaller letters ( as an afterthought?) and I understand that the well-known Bricklayers Arms is actually the oldest.

In case you're wondering about the provenance of the non-PC pub name, the local CAMRA guide tells us that this refers to the Arab servant of the person who built the pub in 1849, and to whom the pub was bequeathed.

I've not got this pub on my list for an imminent re-visit
