This place is the pits. Some time last year, we were hauled up there watching the football. Firstly, the England game followed by the Wales match. When the Wales game started, I asked the boss if he was intending on leaving the game on - I know how funny you English can be about watching Wales play - but a confirmative response was given. So, we (that's all 17 of us) ordered more drink and food and settled in for...2 more minutes. Because, our friendly landlord suddenly decided that he wanted VH2 on instead. I challenged this decision, seeing as we had just parted with almost £230 for food and drink and our friendly landlord went mental shouting all sorts of obscenities, wagging his finger, etc., etc. So, I demanded the money back for the food. This was met with equal venom from the man whose vain on his forehead was now pulsating with all the pressure of having to justify himself to a “…bunch of stinking twats”. In the end, we all challenged him and he gave us back our cash rather than letting us watch the Wales game. "Well done", I hear some of you cry (after all, it was only Wales on the box), but there's a little thing called respect and honour and this man had none. We all live local in Blackheath and haven't been back since. We actually nick-named this place the "peanut" bar when it first opened, as a result of them selling out of date peanuts behind the bar! It's had a couple of refits recently and is now some Greek restaurant which incidentally you should never have problems finding a seat in. The place is empty at the best of times. Maybe others had similar experiences? Setting aside the landlords’ attitude, the place has less atmosphere that Pluto. Before turning itself into a Greek Taverna, it resembled a local council run community centre! There were never enough seats for those in there or indeed room to stand. Something was just not right about the place. It lacked so much of everything it’s hard to put my finger on exactly what wasn’t right. To make matter worse, there was endless hassle getting served at the bar; the bar staff were all fresh out of nappies and didn’t have the first idea of what constituted good service or care one iota about what they were doing. This bar/restaurant/community centre does not deserve a place on the main thoroughfare through Blackheath Village or anywhere else for that matter. buzzbox - 16 Dec 2004 12:27
Oh i totally agree - with any luck it will close and become the decent bar it looked like it was going to be! Taverna! talk about tacky, i cant believe they have ruined what potentially could have been a well needed new bar in Blackheath. C'mon people - The Railway is totally over run, there is room for plenty more decent pubs / bars in Blackheath that dont have to be occupied by Chavs! Pip - 24 May 2004 12:32
Wonder how the new restaurant will fare when Strada opens up next door... Clare - 16 May 2004 10:54

When this hole was open you could have thrown in a couple of grenades on a Fri/Sat night and wiped out half the car crime in the area in one go. Would have harmed Burberry's sales figures tho'. Howard - 3 Feb 2004 16:00
