Just one of the best pubs you could wish to find. We're moving away from Hertford, and this is one of the things we'll miss the most.

A quaint country pub visited several times before with a good reputation for real ale straight from the barrel. Revisited a couple of weeks ago to take advantage of the Pie and a Pint night. St. Austell Proper Job and steak and kidney pie went down a treat.
It's pleasing to see that this pub is still in the GBG for 2011.

Great location for a pub & beer ok BUT burger purchased was not good. Cold bun & thin leathery burger inside, advertised 'with salad' but no salad garnish. Not good value at £5 which is a shame because it's so easy to buy a decent quality burger & toast the bun.

Just about as perfect a pub you could find on a cool though bright and summy Saturday. Trouble was we got there too quickly, and had half an hour before they opened at 12.00. Warm, very welcoming, a fine range of Tyrells crisps to be had, and gravity served beers. The Ossett Big Red on offer was really lovely warming and mellow, and the spicey beef and tomato soup just right. It was with great reluctance that we stirred ourselves, to go out into the now clouded over afternoon - though no rain - and squelch our way along a muddy track down to the river Beane, and on towards Hertford.

A sunny Thursday afternoon, two superb Green King ales and the Woodman's platter eaten in the garden, with Robins, Blackbirds, Chickens and ducks all around. What better way to spend a lunch time. Forget your prejudice about Green King enjoy the beers here straight from the wood, you won't taste a better pint. Enjoy
