nice garden and good beer but the female manager/owner is less than friendly. There does not seem to be a clear policy on children, even in the garden. She usually refuses to allow my 11yo son in the garden yet nicer staff members have even invited him inside. I prefer the Red Lion Timbosxm - 6 Aug 2008 21:14
Oh dear! went in there with a freind as we had been told that food was good, full of very rough and crude men and hardly a woman in site! As the night went on it got a lot worse, enter ladies at your peril. runninghampster - 7 Jul 2008 01:24
Having used this pub for the last 3 years, i have always found the food absolutely first class and wouldnt hesitate to recommend to anyone. The staff are always friendly especially Phil and Julie(owners)who always find time to chat.Sunday lunch seems to be the busiest of days where the roasts & veg are always fresh and served on hot plates. i therfore decided to book my xmas party there, the food and service was first class and have already booked next year. contented - 8 Jan 2008 14:40
My wife and I are fairly new to the district and having tried several pubs in the Cheam area discovered the Prince of Wales in the run-up to Xmas last year. We both had a couple of drinks at the bar(good choice of wines and beers reasonably priced)and then decided to have lunch as the menu looked comprehensive and inviting. Food arrived quickly and served hot (and actually served on hot plates something of a rarity in pubs I find)and came with a smile and "enjoy your lunch".This might seem a tad old-fashioned but personally I like courtesy and friendliness particularly when it is so obviously well meant. We had a spectacular dessert and finished with some nice fresh coffee again a rarity in pubs nowadays. The owner and his wife Phil and Julie both had time for a quick chat to see if we enjoyed our meal and came across as nice friendly folk genuinely interested to see that we both had a pleasant time. My wife and I have both been back several times since at different times of the day and have never found the bar staff and owners less than friendly and courteous and always ready for a quick chat no matter how busy they might be. I would personally thoroughly recommend the Prince of Wales for the huge selection of drinks quality interesting menu reasonably priced and above all delivered with a smile and friendly attitude making you feel very welcome indeed. In other words exactly what a good pub should be but rarely is in my wide experience. slickster - 8 Jan 2008 12:50
My how this pub has changed in the last while.Once a first class eating establishment but of late it has divebombed. How can a new landlord get it so wrong? There used to be a Kiwi and an Irish manager and in fairness the food, wines, ales, atmosphere were top notch. They even used to spoil my dog as well as being children/elderly friendly. All the components that make a proper local.Shame that brewery pubs change hands like that. livelyjoe - 11 Dec 2007 04:58
