I_Like_Brandy may well have the wrong pub - there is no television at all.

Surprised really by the low rating for this place.
Yes, it’s a bit gastropuby now and yes, it gets full at times with Guardianistas from up the road. But it’s a nice old pub that hasn’t had a hideous refurb, there is plenty of space outside in the summer and the beer is always good. As it was last night with a decent couple of pints of Adnams had.

I like this pub on every level except for the large television in the corner. I find this kills the atmosphere and is totally anti-social.... otherwise a nice London pub with good food and beer.

If you squint really, really hard, you can almost see the remnants of a good pub behind the gastropub facade. The shell is a nice, traditional, wood panelled pub, but don't be fooled. Inside, you'll only find overpriced drinks, and pseudo-chi chi food; "Irish Hereford Steak in Bearnaise Sauce" for example. Ooooh! Irish you say!?!? How exotic. The sauce was about an inch thick too, and tasted like it was it was made from a Coleman's instant packet. "Why did you have the steak if you're such a cynic about it?" I hear you say? Well, because being an up-its-own-arse gastropub, they only offer four dishes a night, and the other 3 didn't appeal (2 seafood, one vegetarian, not exactly your alpha-male fare).

I don't particularly like gastropubs, but I know a good one from an bad one, and this was certainly towards the latter end of the scale.

My bedroom used to overlook the beer garden so I know the clientele all too well - opinionated journo types guffawing at nothing. Gets very busy in shorts bursts and then is completely quiet. Run by a nice but dim posh couple who know nothing about putting the PUB into gastroPUB. Ate here recently and was very disappointed - the most expensive gastropub I have ever visited yet far, far from the best.

On the plus side they have good beers, but they are very pricey and its certainly not somewhere you'd go for just a beer.
