I've been here with some friends that know the owners on a number of occaions and I've always thought it one of the best drinking spot's along Upper Street. Friendly, good amosphere, and a good mix of people. And the be-mulletted owner doesn't mind getting his hands dirty to clean vomit off the floor when required.

3 of us went here for a mates b'day. They were a group of girls. But the bouncers wouldn't let us in as we weren't with girls (despite them being inside). Made the error of employing a rational, common sense argument with the bouncer and got thrown out of the queue.
Got in later by pretending to be with some girls we met in the queue to find terrible euro-house and bar prices that would cost a mouse 100 to get drunk.

In it's favour there were some fantastic looking women in here, so I will award 2 points for that.

How can this place get such good reviews?

I found it to be reminiscent of some of the dives off the Khao San Road: the ones with the Western owners who all look slightly suspect. The decor is pure beachbar chintz, which is maybe sophisticated enough for the loud drunken antipodeans often found vomiting in the toilets but for all other it fails to provide a decent ambience. It's one of those places where the managers are on the bar and try to become everyone's best friend. maybe i've been in London too long but they come across as creeps rather than genuinely friendly.

The music is a departure from the standard 'too cool for school eclecticism' that infests Islington and usually any alternative would be welcome. unfortunately, the alternative in this case is the head grindingly tedious hard house, or euphemistically named 'funky house' (i.e euro pop) that the afore mentioned antipodeans like as thier vomit accompanying music of choice.

In all respects, this bar offers something different then from its neighbours. However, Matt Matt just goes to show that choice is only a good thing if the alterative isn't hell.

Fresh and funky. Thursday nights the night. The bar has a friendly atmosphere with a nice serving of funky house. Round about midnight the mood changes to incorporate some hot breaks but the tradition for house was strong making this the ideal night to excite.

This is generally a nice little venue with good DJs. Unfortunately, you can't be sure of getting in. In the past I've turned up and found it completely shut during the week when it was advertised as open. I've also found it closed for a private party. And then there's the cover charge. So, good potential but could do better.
