Found what was the Happy Frenchman only to find that he wasn't that happy anymore and they have renamed it The Frenchman. It seems to have gone a bit upmarket since my last visit and whilst the basic layout is the same they've clearly spent a bit of money on the decor and it's now quite a decent pub. Pool table, dartboard, quiz and fruit machines and a jukebox. It looks like they still have live music events. Just Adnams Bitter on and was in good enough nick for our first two beers of a boozy weekend. Rating gone up from a 4 to a 5. Millay - 4 Apr 2009 17:43
Has recently re-opened having been closed for a while. Shame. It was better closed MankyBadger - 10 Oct 2008 20:34
An unwelcoming and not exactly friendly bar (rather than pub). Totally devoid of atmosphere. Has the odd colourful character in it, e.g. the guy with the completely tattooed head! Speaking as a band member it's not a good venue to see a band in or to play in. Also, the manager double books bands and lies through his teeth. Do yourself a favour and avoid. Folkestone has much better to offer than this. BattleCruiser - 21 Jun 2008 02:18

Went down the Frenchman 020704 and saw an original band called Kingkuda,I think. They were totally amazing and well worth seeing. The guitarist did some really strange things with his guitar, getting noises out of it I have never heard before.A totally amazing band to watch!!!! more of this please. Pub - 5 Jul 2004 14:37
