It is, literally, a crying shame this pub has been closed by the brewery (St. Austell) as it had one of the friendliest, most welcoming atmospheres of any pub I've visited in West Cornwall. The publican and his wife were warm and accommodating and the food was superb. Beers were in top form always and the odd bit of brandy on a cold evening most welcome, as was the roaring fire. It's location, midway between Penzance and St. Just, was perfect. Now it is shuttered and up for sale. I really cannot understand St. Austell's putting pure profit above good purpose in this instance. I sincerely hope someone else can take this task on and return a local landmark to its deserved glory.

Pub is now closed, boarded up and advertised for sale.

I assume that St Austell Brewery are selling it off as the turnover just wasn't enough. This is a great shame as this was a super pub selling beer in tip top condition and excellent food, (their Friday night 'pie night' deal was a outstanding).

Another example of people working really hard to make a success of their business but scuppered by high tax and an uncaring government.

One year on from the last comment, and I confirm that it is as good as ever in this friendly pub.
