Visiting friends in Derbyshire who are vegetarians, and they suggested this pub to visit on Saturday evening. Very pleasant traditional pub and excellent good value food, unfortunately let down by the beer that the landlord brews on the premises. The first pint I ordered looked and, initially, tasted OK, but quickly gave way to an unpleasant taste. The bar staff were happy to change it for a different one, but this also had the similar after taste. Decided to settle for the bottled larger which was fine. In retrospect I should have noticed that, whilst the pub was very busy, the majority of customers were not drinking the pub brewed beer.

"Charles" comments are extremely misleading. He has his own agenda for the comments he makes, which are not fair to the licensees and the efforts they put in. Testament to them, the beers sell very well and the pub is always busy, probably one of the busiest in the town. The beer is NOT generally as he says. I go in there regularly and have had an occasional beer that is not right, but they will always offer to change it for another brand. In the past 6 months the beers have been of good quality.

Went back again one evening for a chilli. Food is excellent and very cheap as usual. However the beer was a big let down still with revolting after taste.
It's out of the good beer guide which is only right, as entries are supposed to be consistent in their good beer which this place is most cetainly not. I can only hope they improve as they are losing business because of it.

Just thought I'd give this place one more try and the beer is still awful with its antiseptic aftertaste.
Also why do vegan restaurants like this insist on selling veggie sausages, hot pot etc. which are utterly revolting. I've eaten superb vegetarian meals in India and had to remind myself there was no meat in it.
The variety of vegetarian dishes here is limited and unimaginative as is the poor quality home brewed beer.

Awful beer brewed on the premises, ever since he began brewing it has consistently had a disgusting antiseptic after taste. Glad to learn it won't be in the 2012 CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Avoid like the plague.
