All change please! All change! This pub is now called the Boatman and the changes are not exactly dramatic but certainly noticeable. It has become another Gastro Pub, rather than a typical ordinary pub. The choice of beer is less than before - there was Hogs Back T.E.A and an Otter beer. The Otter beer tasted fine. The food looked good with typically fairly expensive prices but not out of my league. Worth going for a meal but not necessarily a session beer sort of place. BestBeerBoffin - 3 Dec 2009 18:46
Avarage in most respects except their prices ! !. Service can be slow in summer time but they are located in an outstanding riverside location. 6 / 10 FAB1 - 11 Oct 2009 17:13
Was hoping to eat here on Saturday 10th October, but the menu did not provide a very interesting list of meals. Shame because this place could be great. Beer tends to be Wychwood Hobgoblin and Greene King IPA. Personally I love this place for its location rather than anything else. PubWithTheGrub - 11 Oct 2009 16:18
This is a pub in a fantastic location on the River Wey, you can sometimes wait for the food but that comes with the territory of a good pub, with good food and good weather. I think big_mal misses the point in relation to Punch, they own freeholds not the business and as such it is the responsibility of the lease holder to invest in the pub not the pub company who own the 'bricks and mortar'. Your friend of a friend will know the company that lease it not Punch but albeit it doesn't really matter as the lease holders have now bought the freehold. Overall though this is a good pub, and I can only think that with the purchase of the freehold there will now be an ivestment that can help make the pub a great place to go 12 months of the year, not just when the weather is good. switch23 - 21 Sep 2009 13:26
Visited again yesterday afternoon and was an excellent place to hang out on a warm August afternoon. The beers have not changed since my last visit but the pint of Greene King IPA was satisfactory. I'd recommend this place on a warm sunny day, simply as there is massive outside seating by the river where you can watch the World go by. BestBeerBoffin - 20 Aug 2009 12:37
