Great pub, we had a great week in Whitby and this was our favourite pub of all - we visited last year but were not that impressed - the pub now is much better organised
and the beer is better
back to whitby soon I hope

Not bad, not great. Just an average run of the mill bar. The words 'bland' and 'sterile' sums it up. I do give it a 7 just for the quality of the Theakstons.

Really nice mix of locals and tourists. They have created a no smoking area now but that space is bland. Great harbour views out the back. Always nice to sit and chuckle at the hapless few who go up the 199 steps and are out of breath just looking at the climb.

A poor man's Duke of York, with similar views of the harbour
A handy sliding door at the front of the pub and reasonable selection of beers although not all hand pulled
Restaurant downstairs and much more frequented by locals rather than tourists.
Handy of you want to do a "mini crawl" while the wife and kids climb up the 199 steps to the abbey.
