this is now an excellent 'gastro-pub' but still retains a local pub feel. the food is excellent - a varied locally sourced menu. not cheap but worth the money. the atmosphere is friendly and beer - just usually one or two ales - well kept.

worth checking out

Ten outta ten for me. I last used the Vic 20 years ago on a Christmas Eve when it was the only place open at 18.00 and it was dirty and full of Alty’s lowlife. How times change! For a start, it’s NO-SMOKING, brilliant! We were eight and our leader had been before and he’s a smoker. Good range of quality beer for a small place – Flowers & Speckled Hen, Jennings settling. Food exceptional. Smallish menu but all quality. I don’t do starters & sweets but I can see enough and listen to the moans to know they were good. My venison was absolutely superb. Good wine list but again not extensive but who cares? Service good, only down side for a Satdee was the 23.00 bar closing but if that’s my only moan, it wasn’t a bad night at all. NOT A PUB CRAWL PUB but it does what it says on the tin.

Was funny to go in after it just opened to find a couple of scallies in there complete with baseball cap and tracksuits! I don't think they realised that it is only the Victoria in name now, which is odd as it will have to try to remove that old reputation.

It's aiming to be more of an upmarket-ish restaurant I think although there is a bar seating area still to the right as you go in. The decor is nice and the food is good, can't remember the prices but I remember the menu was a bit limited in terms of the basic english dishes. Very good friendly service. Unfortunately I am a smoker so won't be going back as it has a *no smoking* policy.

Recommended for non smokers. The tables outside look a bit Tesco Value.

OPEN - This has re-opened. Looks like more of Wine Bar/ Restaurant but they have made a great job of the outside and I will call in a for a meal in the near future.

Someone buy it and turn it into a more modern rileys type place, bit like the sports bar in town, alty needs something like that !
