user reviews of De Parys Hotel, Bedford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We went to De Parys for our anniversary dinner, we had a family wedding there 8 years ago and the married couple returned for several anniversary dinners which were all excellent, we couldn’t decide between the Knife & Cleaver or De Parys but we chose the latter. Boy what a mistake that was !

The bar was spit and sawdust with the entire menu coming out of a deep fat fryer, we only tasted the deep fried starter and didn’t really touch the main course of fried fatty burnt and completely dried offering.

The bottle of wine was just left on the table with no offering of a tasting whilst the waitress just stood around for half an hour as we finished our drinks not touching the food.

We asked for the bill and she quickly removed the platters directly to the bins as if it was par for the course.

Looks lovely from the outside but you'd best stay there. Once inside the place disappoints. Nice garden but filled with hoards feral kids screaming and running about as their white trash parents look on. Lots of uncleared glasses and plates and staff who look like they'd rather be somewhere else. Who could blame them? Avoid.

Beautiful garden out the back, sadly it dishes up over priced non-descript food in the restaurant, and serves all their real ales through a swan neck and suitably chilled so every pint is like licking and ice cream Tetley, how on earth this place makes it into the Good Beer Guide is a mystery to me. But if you like Gardens you'll surely not be disppointed.
