| Cosy little pub tucked away in a side street near the Legal area and adjacent to the Edgar Wallace in Essex Street. Tidy. panelled place with 4 pulls; the Youngs was on top form but the choice of beers was unimaginative from the larger breweries. Will return if visiting the Wallace next door. | Stumbled across this pub tonight for the first time in a few years was very happy to find it warm, just the right level of busy and serving mulled wine! my kind of heaven!!! the Dev seems to have had a lick of paint since i was last there or maybe it was the pretty barmaid making the place seem better than i remember? who knows, but what ever has changed its made the pub. will be back here again after ice skating in somerset house next week. deluxejellyfish - 7 Dec 2010 00:20 |
| Been coming here for meetings 2 or 3 times a month for several years; 4 Real Ale pumps; one will be a well known brew & the others more unusual; food used to be good, but they now have a new menu which is not so good on choice or quality, just OK; I'll still eat there. Had some Spitfire yesterday, was OK but seemed slightly watery, maybe as I'd already had several good brews in a neighbouring pub; tried some Derailed Ale (Box Steam?) which was good & so had a couple more. | Good beer and good atmosphere: a pleasant place to have a pint, or two, or three... Food (in my experience) rather ordinary -- not bad, but certainly not for gourmets. cato - 19 Feb 2010 16:54 |
