Went in last night and had yet another good night. Free music in the mini-globe theatre. The only thing they asked for was that you listened to the music and turned your mobile off. For me this was great as if you wanted a conversation you could go sit in the main bar quite happily and it meant you could hear the excellent music perfectly.

Again great venue, great pub.

This pub is much better inside than it looks and has a great atmosphere. well worth a look.

Great pub with more rooms than you can count. I'm sure there are some tucked away somewhere that I haven't found yet.

Out of the three on the ground floor the mini-globe theatre bit offers a good stage for bands and comedy. Generally has a fairly good standard of both. The larger bar offers a place where you can comfortably chat with mates or meet new people. I don't like the food serving bit they have in there though as I don't think it looks quite right in the setting. It does show some sport (be warned at this point it will be packed and your be lucky to squeeze through the door). If I was going to watch sport here I'd go to the smaller bar with it's entrance round the corner from the main one (do not call this 'the old mans bar' within earshot of the regulars there as you probably get a slightly grumpy look and a hmmmpphhh). It's also good if you want a quiet chat as the noise and music played in the main bar is well contained in there. The down side of sitting in there is that service can be quite slow as the staff can't see in from the other side and do not dedicate a member of staff for that side so they may get bored and drift round to the main bar. Also the toilets (even as a bloke) do leave quite a bit to be desired or offer more than desired depending on the way you look at it.

The staff can be a little variable as well have known great really friendly staff who work efficiently and efectively and among the best you'll find in Balham. Also have had someone who forgot my drinks order twice despite me only ordering one drink and some crisps.

The beer again can be a bit variable. I've had some good pints and some bad ones. I've only had the food once and it was pretty good standard pub food bit overpriced but I seem to feel that way about all pub food in Balham so who knows.

As previous comments have stated it is pretty much full of younger new Balhamites moving down from the spread of Clapham but I find the seperation of rooms offers a space and atmosphere for everyone.

The Bedford is without doubt one of the best pubs in Balham in terms of atmosphere and a good night out. However, general cleanliness is poor and in particular the quality of drinks is dismal. You are almost guaranteed a dirty glasses and being served a a flat lager is fairly commonplace. Last time I went with mates to watch the rugby our pints were full of "bits". Sort it out!

My first impression was that this souless barn of a place was a failed Wetherspoon's. However, it seemed busy with the bright young things of Balham, munching burgers and apparently having an AMAZING time! I left them to it
