Visit on 14th December 2009.

Entertainment cool , but at £14.50 a head, I expect a seat you can see the stage from. The act should seek a better venue as they were class ...

Totally rubbish pub, too dark, too expensive. Ladies loo's did not lock and had no paper. Pub caters for the area, upper middle class no brainers.

One out of ten - could do better.

Reasonable big pub near Balham station, doing Brains SA at the time of visit, has all sorts of events. Would probably be my local if I lived in the area.

This is a large two room pub that hosts other events upstairs. It was the Evening Standard Pub of the Year in 2002 and the sign is still proudly displayed on the wall of the main bar. The pub itself however is nowhere near the quality that this suggests.

The main bar is large and quite airy with a lot of different types of chairs and tables scattered about and a couple of sofas in front of the fireplace. There is also outside seating for those who want it (and there were many on the Sunday I visited) although a panoramic view of Sainsbury's car park and the raised main southern railway line are probably not everyone's cup of tea. The smaller side bar always seems to be for the hardened drinkers whenever I've dropped in.

This is an ok place and the main bar is fairly nice but there are preferable places around Balham. I can't comment on the evening entertainment but that would seem to be the source of most of the attraction this pub has.

Pretty dreadful. I didn't like it when it featured in the London Standard top10 years ago (not surprising, as choices can be laughable), and it was worse when I stopped by last week to find the main (front) bar locked, and the rear bar smelling bad (musty/sweaty?) even with no-one in it. Three of four pumps (or 2/3?) were reverse clipped. I wont be making the 2min walk from Balham stn again.

Good pub 7 days a week. Something different going on every night. Monkeyfunk on a Saturday night is a good laugh only mildly spoiled by some gay bloke at the back of the room using an imaginary fishing rod...........
