Stopped by - by accident - over the August Bank holiday. I can see why it is in The Times Top 10 country inns with food. Good atmosphere, friendly bar staff and the beer was good too! dking66 - 2 Sep 2011 14:36
Visited one evening whilst on holiday in Whitby. Excellent food and beer and very friendly landlord. My only criticism of the place was that the landlord kept disappearing for several minutes at a time leaving the bar completely unattended which was somewhat frustrating... undeaded - 29 May 2011 16:35
Just got back from a two night stay at this Inn. Although the stay was relaxing the bed was comfortable the rooms were basic but clean. Food was a tad on the expensive side as was the beer but the food was very good the beer was a decent pint too. On the down side. On the two nights b&b we stayed we ordered a table for an evening meal first night for 19.30 and we was waiting 50 minutes before we were showed to our table and after we finished our starter waited 30 more minutes for our main to arrive. The second night we thoiught lightening could'nt strike twice alas it did and waited 50 minutes again for our table but on the plus point only 20 minutes befor our second course arrived. A word of warning when booking for b&b.It states on their web site a twin double with en suite is £69 per night we were charged £75 per night when i queried this i was told it was £69 for 3 or more nights only but we only stayed two so it's £75 even though when i booked by phone and asked the price i was told £69. After a lovely stay in the moors this was spoilt by the service and the surprised bill come the end of our stay westminster - 10 Aug 2010 20:14
It was 4pm and I was gasping and this was the third pub I'd visited (2 others were shut in mid-afternoon in hot mid-July; no wonder 50 a week are closing!). So almost anything would have done but this was better than that; good Black Sheep, characterful interior; pleasant service; great location by the station. Exactly what was needed when it was needed. strongarm - 26 Jul 2009 22:23
My wife found this pub on the internet last year while we were looking to stay in Yorkshire . I have to say I am very VERY glad she found it !!! We stayed for a weekend last autumn & have just come back from a weekend there with my wifes Sister and brother in law ( They loved it ) . The Staff could not be more friendly and welcoming if they tried . The rooms are lovely & the food is simply stunning , I am not exagerating , it is part of a chain of pubs but you would never know it & what does that matter anyway ? We will be returning in the summer of 2010 ( if not before ) but , living in Dorset , means it is not easy to pop up there ( more's the pity ) . Sitting at a table outside in the evening with a pint & listening to the Owls , watching the Bats , is so relaxing , throw in a fantastic location , BLISS !!!!! Girvan - 21 Apr 2009 02:20
