user reviews of Waterloo Tap, Waterloo

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Fairly empty on a Saturday lunchtime rather surprisingly in view of the constant stream of passing pedestrian traffic but friendly enough. In the same ownership as the Euston Tap which is why I visited although I probably wouldn't go back despite the huge range of beers, around 20 in total including 5 cask ales and 1 cider. The ales were 3 from Five Points Brewing, a Twickenham Stout and Pig and Porter Skylarking, this being the one I tried, a slight hoppy taste but a bit bland and too pale for me despite being advertised as a session ale. I left feeling rather disappointed.

In the 2018 Good Beer Guide, so I came for the tick knowing its not really my cup of tea.

Hosted in a railway arch it has a beer keller feel to the place. High bences to encourage communal drinking.

God knows how many beers on.... 20? All chalked up above the bar with a one word description. A fiver for a Adnams (one of the few recognised breweries) bicycle kick - described as Pale, more like lager. Decent enough pint.

I've got my tick, so I'll be off somewhere more traditional next time in the area.

I'd heard a lot about this place. So I was keen to try it. First problem was that it didn't open when advertised. The barman said he was the only person available to open up and it wasn't really his problem! Probably the same one from the previous review. Neverthless, this bar tucked under the railway arches is probably the best pub in the close vicinity of Waterloo station. It's a single small room with bench seating. Real ales were Adnams Bitter, Burning Sky Plateau & Five Points Railway Porter & XPA. The cider was Hallet's PX and there is a good range of craft beers. I would definitely return despite the unpredictable opening hours and the questionable 'take it or leave it' service.

A fair enough place to escape a billion tourists swarming across the south bank. Barman, at least the one who served me, colder than a deep freezed sociopath. Some decent ale. I''m a lager person so Bernard and bit burger available. Other stuff: Sierra Nevada, Darkstar, Kervel etc.

It''s not extortionate, considering it''s the heart of London, and gets better, and quieter as the night wears on.

Small with outside areas. In summary: okay.
