Thought I would give the place a second chance. Went in Good Friday....What a waste of time. This is typical of places that lose the plot after winning a prize. Give it a wide berth for a while.

Having previously won a prize for good food they are obviously sitting on their laurels. Food was expensive and poor quality. Beer is not well kept. And the landlord is very arrogant and unimpressive. Perhaps it is because he is vertically challenged!
Children not welcome, in fact the night that I was there a young couple with a baby in arms were turned away. They can't need the business.

What a find!
We searched for a pub mid-way between Sherbourne and Salisbury to have lunch with friends and happened on the Talbot.
Smart minimalist decoration was bolstered by a very friendly greeting and slick service. The food was truly exceptional and dare I say it reasonably priced. We all chose something different from the menu and the result was fresh, expertly prepared dishes. As for the sweets - forget the diet - they are a must.
We will definitely return, the sooner the better.

big roadside establishment...neatly tidied-up inside recently, fresh coat of paint.
but you cannot paint over the H&W ales...much better bottled...
friendly-ish reception, but little enthusiasm from the young bar-wench on duty.

Hi
This is surely the jewel in the crown of Hall and Woodhouse pubs. The lovely and charming landlady accompanied by a very enthusiastic team, manage to cheer and entertain the locals, albeit for the rather over weight, over indulging landlord.
There is a strong competitive spirit amoungst all the pool, darts and shove halfpenny teams, and a lively young and good looking bunch of customers.
Keep an eye open for the pictures of the regulars cars in the public bar. This is surely an affluent area.
