| Very much a gastropub, food is excellent if a bit pricey. Beer is well kept but not a very exciting range, Adnams and Woodfordes Wherry. Staff are friendly and helpful but not too "in your face". Dog friendly. Apparently King Edward VII stayed here hence a Langtry room upstairs. The deer park is not part of the pub, but no one seemed to worry about people having a small wander. | Situated off the main road, to the south of the village, in parkland. Hugely interesting interior (it may have been a lodge or suchlike in the past - the Elk Room is impressive, the art is eclectic) and a decent choice of East Anglian ales kept in good order. Clientele were largely a middle class mix of families, hipsters and overseas visitors - creating a relaxed buzz. Good efficient service after an initially rather ambivalent welcome. My companion liked her food but both of my courses were skilfully cooked yet remarkably bland (it is quite a feat to render a lemon curd cheesecake thus).
