Clearly I'm a bit late getting to this particular party judging by the previous reviews but there's something for everyone here with Oakham Citra, Butty Bach, Bespoke Brewing's Beware the Bear/Forest Gold, Arbor My Little Sabrony, Goff's Black Knight, Purity Jimbo and Hop Shed Buckeye being the handpulls on Saturday with numerous keg beers too. My pint of Beware the Bear was good but not superb (although I'd have happily stayed for something else given I had a good view of the rugby on TV from my seat).

I've always found Cheltenham to be one of Britain's most disappointing large towns so this chance to visit the 2015 national pub of the year was taken up with enthusiasm. It didn't disappoint. We visited the day after a cider and cheese festival and left over wares were being used ingeniously on the menu with many a perry and cider still on offer. Beer wise, I had a divine pint of Ramsbury Silver Pigs stout and dined on bratwurst roll and chips - also of high quality. Service as knowledgeable and impeccable. The beer garden looks like a good spot too.

I came, like many others, to see if it was worthy of the prize.

National pub of the year 2015. I'm sure it was the Salutation in Ham, so we can only assume that the panel live in Gloucestershire.

Thriving, much beer choice but far to brightly lit for my liking.

Exceptional beer. Excellent Purity Ubu was chosen.

Great ale pub. The craft kegs were a bit underwhelming - apart from a Bristol Beer Factory, but they might just be responding to the demand of their regular custom. If it ain't broke, no need to get Kernel etc in to fix it- you can always go to wild beer if you want that sort of thing. Food is decent quality pub grub at very keen prices and staff are excellent. My daughter's steak was five minutes late and they gave her a pudding for free. Cask ales are exemplary as you would expect - a mixture of strengths and styles. And if the kegs don't quite deliver, there is a staggering range of bottles. Bar billiards as well. Has to be a ten.

Totally agree with Weazel Times' review. As well as sampling some of the range of well kept beers we had soup for lunch. 10% discount on Monday for Camra members
