This is now the Fell Bar. It was my favourite pub/bar of 23 new establishments tried over the weekend. It's a small place, with not much space for seating. But there are other floors and the turnover of customers was quick. Beers, both cask and keg are on a blackboard, alongside ciders, a craft lager and ciders. The cask ales from Fell were Ghyll, Robust Porter & Nelson & Chinook. Guests were Allendale Summit Single, RedWillow Effortless & Northern Moon Faith. The 3 ciders were Snail's Bank Fruit Bat, Oliver's Dry & Thistly Cross Traditional. Bar staff seemed to be knowledgeable. Reminiscent of a micropub, this is a welcome addition to the pub scene in Penrith and probably the best in town.

Now run by the Fell brewery. Good selection of ales and a friendly lad behind the bar. Had the Fell Porter and one called Joker IPA from another brewery. Both were in good nick.

Very regrettably, now closed.

Small shop conversion right next door to another pub. Very friendly small bar with an 'udder' room on the first floor - and the toilets on the 2nd. Was let down by the ale though - had a fairly insipid Carlisle brew which left me not wanting anymore. Top marks for the bar but think the ale needs attention.

The Moo Bar only opened 2 years ago, when I was in Penrith last September it looked very new so I decided not to visit on that occasion, who knows why!

So on a recent visit to Penrith I weren't going to miss it this time. After a quick drink in the Agricultural Hotel it was a short wander down the hill to this very welcoming & intimate bar.

6 hand pumps offering 5 ales and 1 real cider. The majority of the ales were from Cumbria and the Lake District. I opted for 2 pints of Fell Brewery Tinderbox IPA @ a whopping 6.3% (£3.50 a pint) & Barngates Brathay Gold @ 4.2% (£3.00 a pint). Both extremely well kept ales and very drinkable.

I took a seat on one of the long benches by the window and immediately struck up conversation with a local that lasted several hours.

A cracking bar, great ale choice, well kept ales, friendly locals. What a great place and a deserved entry in the GBG, for me this is a must visit in Penrith.
