This place recently closed down due to "blocked drains" and then re-opened with new management. It's still the same old Bridewell though and can get busy at times. The cramped interior of the "pub" doesn't help when it gets busy, especially when they show footy on the flatscreen TV's.

However, I've been in on Saturday evenings a couple of times and it's been empty.

It's still hit and miss as to whether they have any Liverpool One beers on. I want to come here more often but I can't see it happening.

Yesterday was my first visit to the Bridewell and I was reasonably impressed. As previous reviews have noted, it doesn't feel much like a pub, with the cells effectively cutting you off from other people. I was also a little disappointed that there were no Liverpool One beers on. Oakham JHB, Black Sheep Best, Darkstar Hophead & Major Cornpone's Ale Emporium Sir Garfield's Gold were the beers, with Westons Old Rosie also on. Certainly a place I will give another try.

Not sure what this pub is trying to be. It seems to throw a couple of real ales on for us 40+ types while pandering to shouty under 25's. A novel use of former holding cells, my last visit on Saturday yielded some mediocre cask beer from their own and other breweries. I was told that the "cells" were all full - I made a quip about that being expected in Liverpool (I live in Birkenhead FFS!!) and the barman took the hump. Can't say that I will be rushing back.

On our first visit late Thursday afternoon in search of grub we were served by a rotund gentleman who I recognised as the barman who used to be at the Baltic. We ordered real ale, fish and chips and bangers and mash. Both the beer and food were excellent and we left very satisfied. On the Saturday evening, however we found it so full that we had to go elsewhere ,which was not surprising as it was a wonderful evening and the garden was very popular. My only gripe is that it doesn't really feel like a pub; the cells seem too gimicky for my taste and the clientele rather "too boorish young office types", but this is not surprising given that it is surrounded by offices.

Great building but L/pool 1 ales were warm and out of condition on a recent visit.
