It's a shame it is so far out of Blackpool but then perhaps it would not be the same pub. Lucky locals have a smashing all-rounder here. Decent, if not stellar, ales, plenty of pub food, sky sports, a good community local.

wasn't as good beer choice wise as last time I was in, strange pub, like a chef and brewer but with good beers , Im not sure I would bother again coming out of town for as its easier to get a train to Lytham than to get here. Still better than the turds of pubs in Blackpool

Been told a visit to Blackpool is not without a visit to the Shovels. Saturday afternoon at 1 ish it wasn't particularly busy but took a while to get served. Had 6 real ales on including the landlord's own, a good selection of beers from 6 different breweries. Went back about 5 ish and it was packed out, so much so we had to stand. Pricing was reasonable, 2 for a Greene King IPA, max we paid was 2.56 so impressed with that. Its a recommended visit, if you like real ale, MUST visit.

Visited in October when their beer festival was on. A truly superb pub. The landlord has an intimate knowledge of breweries and their beers. Worth a visit but a bit of a bus ride.

It is a year since we called into this pub, and although we didn't eat here this time the food menu looked good.

We had the house beer Shovells Best Bitter brewed by Lytham brewery, and Brewsters Red Hop Lover.

Both the beers were in good condition. Appeared to be a popular pub.
