Saw something here quite unlike anywhere else I can think of - everybody appeared to be paying by debit/credit card. With three barstaff on, which should have been enough for a reasonably busy early evening, things ground to a near halt as they all had to wait to use the single card terminal. Waited about 10 minutes to be served, but gave up and went to the Famous 3 Kings instead. I suppose that I will try again sometime, but it really was pretty farcical. rpadam - 23 Feb 2008 17:07
Big and comfy, but stinks like a festival urinal in a heatwave. A Guinness will cost you £3.02 - useful if you want a pocket full of shrapnel. xyrion - 14 Sep 2007 16:11
Absolutley brilliant boozer. I have been drinking in this pub regularly for over 20 years and think its strange to read some of the negative comments about the Curtains. The Curtains Up is its most recent name (once the Barons Ale House). Ask any regular visitor to this lovely little pub and they will all tell you that this place had a pretty rough history, trouble was common place not so many moons ago. Over the last couple of years the place is unrecognisable. The most recent manager 'Chris' has cleared out what was left of the bad elements and whats left is a pub with rarely any problems and a great atmosphere. The main custom is older blokes like me who enjoy a quiet pint, students and more recently the younger professionals in the area. The new manager had some teething troubles to start with but it was his first pub so go easy. He is a great young guy who talks to us all and has made the pub a better place to drink in. The pub also just won an award for most reccomended pub in north fulham so that should silence any naysayers. Definitley the best pub in the area by far for a great night with good beer. Staff are all tops too. andyregular - 22 May 2007 19:30
Terrible, Terrible service. Last Saturday night was nowhere near busy and yet it seemed as though we'd all been sprinkling invisible dust on ourselves. The ladies had no toilet roll. When I asked for some, they reached behind the bar and handed me a roll of Andrex (was I supposed to bring it back, I wondered, when I'd finished?) Sinks in ladies were last repaired sometime in the 1970's. The only redeemable feature was that the lager was only £2.30 a pint. I suppose the management don't feel like they are able to charge any more... As someone commented earlier, 6 years ago (when I lived in the area), this place was so different. Shame. hammondshamster - 23 Jan 2007 13:36
| Every time I go into this pub the staff seem to be different. It has everything needed to be a great pub and it's in a spot where it could be a gem. Despite this, it is consistently under par. I have seen more people walk out due to not getting served than any other pub I can remember. Food was surprisingly ok the last time I ate though, and the theatre downstairs has some good plays on.
