Called in for dinner for refreshments while on a walking holiday. Healthy competition in the village and the Duke William did not have the choice of any Cumbrian ales on our visit. We had the localish Lancaster Blonde which was of a good quality.
Food choice was more than adequate with a good selection of £5 meals including our choices of steak mushroom and ale pie and cumberland sausage. I'm sure you can find higher quality elsewhere in the lakes if your prepared to pay over the odds and be prepared to wait. Here you get frills and value for money.

A clean and tidy pub with decent cask ales. Helpfully located between the Eagle and Child and Hawkshead brewery tap.

Attractive pub with a really nice little beer garden at the back. Good food served at bargain prices. My only disappointment was the beer- the best thing on offer on my visit was a very bland pint of Jennings Cumberland Ale which couldn't begin to compete with the beers on offer in the Eagle and Child or Hawkshead Beer Hall. This little village is a mecca for beer lovers, my advice for the landlord of the Duke William would be to join in and get a great range of local ales on the bar.
