| Called in here on Saturday after running from the Golden Fleece(a serious deterioration has sent in since my last vist). The beer (Wherry) food and service were all excellent and would not hesitate to return. The pub's location does it no favours, but the interior is cosy (despite it's size) and welcoming. | basa nmakes a good point in that this is a drinkers Pub. I visited back in May, and had thebest pint that i've had all year, namely a Wherry. Nelson's Revenge and Bass were also both in fine condition. I look forward to goingback again next May. ahscum - 14 Dec 2010 19:23 |
| Ok lets get real about the pubs in Wells.........in my opinion the Edinburgh is the best pub in which to enjoy a pint of real ale. Woodfordes Wherry and Nelsons Revenge or Admirals Reserve are regulars and well kept. At this time of year they have a roaring log fire and a warm welcome. Happy hours on Tues and Wed @ £2.00 pint. The Globe is a glorified wine bar with prices to match. The Crown is a hotel but does have a good real ale brewed by the owners wife and worth a try but it is a hotel and the bar area lacks character and atmosphere. The Bowling Greeen does excellent food and keeps good beer but it is a dining pub not a drinking pub, as long as you know this then ok but you will be surrounded by eaters. The Fleece has the best location of any pub in Wells BUT it is far from the best pub in Wells. basa - 26 Nov 2010 18:07 |
