Marthas probably doesnt get as much trade as it could because of the strong Gay reputation. However as the previous reviewer stated, all are welcome and prices are good. i have only had a drink there at a lunchtime and to be fair it is much like any other town centre pub and the staff were freindly. If you are anti-gay you would not use the pub anyway and to be fair I dont think I would be all that comfortable at nightime so i will stick to the Painters. As an aside, it is a shame that such a well known and historical building will be demolished in the re-vamp along with the Dorchester, you would think they could incorporate these great old buildings as a feature. Ho hum

I would rate this gay pub as very good , which is also frequented by friendly straights alike.
The pub offers excellant for value food during the day time hours of 12 to 7pm.
Drinks are very WELL PRICED ALSO COMPARABLE WITH SUCH PLACE'S AS YATES AND SIMILAR VENUES.
mostly i think the pub is a great social place as the bar staff are genuinley friendly and want to knows their customers as does the manager , one is made to feel welcome at all times .The pub also offers people who are there own a friendly welcome .ANOTHER THING I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE PUB WELCOMES ALL AGES , SO YOU CAN BE TALKING TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES FROM 18 TO 80 AND FOR A GAY BAR I FIND THAT TO BE QUITE RARE. So gay or straight young or old its a friendly place wear all can mix chat laught drink and eat .
tHE NIGHT CLUB ALSO OFFERS THE SAME AND THE FRIENDLY NATURE EVEN STRETCHES TO THE DOOR STAFF TOO.
I give it a nine out of ten, sorry about typing and spelling this keyboard is bad too

It'll soon be biting the dust when the city centre gets redeveloped in a couple of years' time. Martha's used to be a quality gay pub in the 90s but times have changed and it's had it's day.
