Visited The Alma recently where my friend has recently taken over. The pub should improve. Kerrminator - 9 May 2008 10:48
We used to go to the Alma a lot, and were always greeted with a smile. Recently, however, the landlords must have stopped taking their medication. People are told to leave when they only order a glass of tap water (even if part of a larger group). You have to order a drink with your pizza. Bar staff is rude, telling you to go to another pub if you make a complaint. No friendly atmosphere at all. Stay away! kermitthefrog - 7 Feb 2008 23:05
A great pub. I have not visited recently but I used to go there when near the bar the had an Old Red phone box with pirana's in ;) Kerrminator - 20 Feb 2007 12:14
The Alma's been a music venue for over thirty years. Sadly, due to increasingly heavyhanded council interference, it now only has bands on Saturday nights (it used to be Thursday to Sunday when I started going there). It's been through several landlords and at least one change of brewery (from Tolly to Ridleys) but still is a friendly place to have a good pint and enjoy a decent local band. There's never any trouble, women on their own aren't hassled, and the atmosphere's good. So it makes perfect sense for the council to try and hound it out of existence. They should be ashamed of themselves. martinjhscott - 31 Jul 2005 12:48
A Ridleys pub, unique for the area. Went through an excellent phase about 4 years ago (including a telephone box of pihranas!) but not so good now. mikewmiller - 10 Dec 2004 17:23
