| Found this pub near to my hotel. Order for food and Real Ale was taken by a friendly young lady at the bar. Food and ale were very good and it started to fill up just before the Football started. rpf1955 - 20 Nov 2011 17:28 |
| I recently went to the Alma to watch the England rugby games. They're opening early for all england, scotland, ireland and wales matches (along with a few other ones). At the england games they are giving away free breakfasts with your first drink with the option of doubling it up for only £3 before half time. For all other games they are serving breakfast but it costs £5.95. I had a great time and this pub has such an amazing atmosphere for sport and it's where the true die hard rugby fans go. I went back after this for a lunch with my family, they have a great menu, i would particularly recomend their sausage and mash. they get there sausages from a local butchers and every week the type of sausage changes. they're bar staff are all lovely and very helpful. unfortunatly it doesnt have a very big garden, its more of an alley way, apart from this i cannot fault it! | This pub is under new management since late ish 2009. The new landlord is a smashing fella from Wales who is very keen on Real Ales, Live Music, Rugby (matches shown) and hearty food. You'll know who he is because he looks a lot like Eric Cantona but dresses like David Essex. This is exactly the sort of pub you should frequent if you want to support a genuine, friendly landlord putting on great Real Ales and live music. If it were busier when I went (he'd only been there two weeks) I'd have given it a 9. duggy2 - 1 Mar 2010 19:36 |
| Very Impressed on my recent visited. Interior smartened up since my last visit years ago. Beer excellent and a great place to listen to live music...not your usual dive...so well done landlord..may you prosper and have enough visitors to keep you going. RoscoPColtrane - 17 Oct 2009 17:24 |
| Such a shame that this money hungry government has once again strangled the common man so much that he can no longer afford to drink in his local pub, our streets will never be the same again now all the smaller pubs have either gone or running at such a loss that closure cannot be prevented. A real shame. feedmeale - 26 Jun 2009 11:49 |
