First visit since the new owners took over. The pub seems more like it did many years ago with a slightly back-to-basics feel. The beer (Brakspears Bitter and Special, Jennings Cumberland) was OK and the food excellent. best ham, egg and chips we've had for a long long time. The landlady was friendly and efficient. The main downside is how noisy the bar is (and it was only moderately busy) - no music, only conversation, but the sound is magnified and echoes too much - something on the walls to deaden this would be highly beneficial. metrology_man - 11 Apr 2012 10:21
I and two friends dropped into here for lunch, part way along a circular walk from Crowthorne. This is a traditional pub with a good choice of ales, Hobgoblin, Pedigree and Brakspear Bitter and Oxford Gold (n/a) . Unfortunately our arrival coincided with a local ramblers club dropping in 20-30 plus customers without prior warning and somewhat catching the landlady unawares. In spite of this unexpected demand she coped admirably, retained her humour and we only encountered one slight delay whilst waiting for a refill. The beef and ale pie at £10.50 was good value and unusually for this dish, was packed full of meat. A nice pub, well worth a return visit. Hellskitchen - 16 Nov 2011 09:04
Having visited in the past to find they were inbetween owners so no food was available I was pleased to see the kitchen was reopened for business. I was expecting your average country pub food and I most say I was very pleasantly surprised. A small but complete menu, including three vegetarian options, offers good value and plenty of food. Staff are friendly and helpful and improvements to the decoration were well needed. Will be back. princejames1 - 22 Aug 2011 22:37
Good pint of Brakspears. Is in hands of caretaker manager until 11th April when a new landlord starts, so no food at present. lindadtucker - 19 Mar 2011 16:55
Currently closed and "awaiting new landlord". Previous chap has now managed to close 2 pubs (Dukes Head, Wokingham is the other one). He's a nice chap, has plenty of energy and ideas, but somehow it just doesn't work. metrology_man - 29 Sep 2010 14:32
