I am the Manager from The Thomas Kemp and want to reply to the previous comment. Brighton Best is our top selling ale and so i find it hard to believe it was flat and vinegary! Possibly too cold for everyones taste but not possible to be, quote, " the worst beer in Brighton!" We take personal pleasure and care to ensure our ales are at their premium at all times. I would urge 'scocky' to perhaps pay us another visit to re-evaluate our brews!! thomaskemp - 10 Oct 2011 23:16
From the other reviews I may have just caught this place on a bad day? At the moment they are the worthy leaders of my table for worst beer in Brighton, which believe me is no mean feat. It was awful pint of Brighton Best Bitter (a new one for me). It was head less and flat, vinegary and too cold. When I gave it back to the bar staff their reply was "yes its not one of our best sellers". When I said it was maybe because it was too cold they said there was nothing they could do about it "thats just how it comes from the cellar". There is no hope..... scocky - 26 Sep 2011 11:12
It's OK. Always found it a bit characterless. It's fairly large, has a lot of tables, beer is OK, food OK but there's nothing to get me back in there. Always busy for Sunday lunch but I think that maybe because it's kid friendly at that time (judging by the number of prams around the place). Bland is how I would describe it, but maybe bland is what some people are looking for. Spratticus - 22 Sep 2011 14:37
I'm a regular at this pub and really enjoy going there. Great relaxed atmosphere inside, helped by the decor - the walls are covered with maps and the tables use retro LP covers for the menus. You can also get a sea view from a couple of tables at the front which is a bonus. Local ale on tap varies from week to week and it's always good. The food is tasty but can be a bit pricey compared to others nearby (The Round Georges is great value in comparison). brightonbaker - 25 Jul 2011 13:41
| Was down for the weekend visiting friends, and this is their local, so I was taken here for a beer. When I first saw the front of the pub, I thought that it would be a trendy "lager" pub....a view reinforced when I could only see lager pumps on initially looking at the bar. But as I walked further into the pub, I was happy to see the 3 hand-pumps. Tried all of the brews, and all were very pleasant indeed. Also sampled the food, and can certainly recommend the veggie lasagne.....very large portions and at a very reasonable price. All in all, a pleasant surprise after my initial reservations, and I would certainly be more than happy to drink and eat at this establishment when I'm next down in Brighton.
