user reviews of Railway Tavern, Buckhurst Hill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Walked in, looked around, walked out.

In the 12 seconds I was in there was able to check that they had no-ales, just lager, a big plasma screen showing sports, even though no-one was watching. Half a dozen punters shouting their opinions across the bar to each other whilst kids ran around their feet.

Truly awful place

This place isnt much to look at from the outside and the large main bar at the front is unimaginatively decorated leading one to think that the owners cant be bothered. Thankfully my fears were unfounded as the barmaid that served me was very hospitable and my pint of Guinness sloshed down with no effort. There is no real ale and only a limited selection of standard draught available, which is unfortunate.

There is a plasma screen and another couple of tiny screens that were all showing the rugby on Sky Sports creating a decent atmosphere, but I cant imagine much going on here when there is no sport showing.

There is another bar around the back that I think is used as a function room rather than a general bar. I was very impressed with the large garden and I was surprised that more people werent utilising it as the afternoon sun was fantastic. There was a large BBQ ready to churn out some sausages and also a seafood stall that is open thus-sun 12 till 8.

I think that this place is a little hidden away and doesnt look that inviting which maybe the reason it had not been added to BITE already.
