Appeared very much closed when I drove past yesterday - site acquired for re-development

Visited today for lunch. The food was extremely good; freshly cooked, nicely presented and served by pleasant staff.
Seems a nice cosy pub with a friendly atmosphere, highly recommended (and the toilets are clean)

This pub has seen a rapid change over of owners in the last few years, but it has another new landlord now (since summer 2013) and I have high hopes that it will make its mark as a pub to be reckoned with.
This pub is very close to the forest and has the best beer garden in Theydon with actual grass! The food is really, really good - gastro pub standard and better than most of the 'school dinner' standard food that a lot of the other forest pubs do. It's not that the other pubs are that bad, but this is how food should be done. The landlord is a character and seems to be trying to make it a friendly, lively place to go to. I hope people in the village make the trek up the hill to it as it is well worth a visit. Food is a bit pricey, but it is very good quality.

best pub in theydon bois. railway has been ruined since the refurb. went there on a sunday, and although not from the village was made very welcome. the young lady serving was polite and i enjoyed speaking with the golfing guys. well kept pint of country and a very enjoyable visit.
